Overwhelmed doctors moved hundreds of patients onto the streets of Nepal's capital today when aftershocks rattled hospitals and buildings already damaged by an earthquake that killed more than 2,400 people and devastated Kathmandu valley.

Another Indian Air Force plane brought 237 Indians back to New Delhi from Kathmandu this afternoon, taking the number of passengers evacuated to 783 from earthquake-hit Nepal since the first plane landed late Saturday night.

Budget carrier SpiceJet today said it will operate a special relief flight to Kathmandu from New Delhi at 11:00 pm, which will return at 03:25 am on Monday.

At least 35 aftershocks hit Nepal till today and some of them were also felt in India after a devastating earthquake hit the Himalayan country, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Most earthquakes originate from compressional or tensional stresses built up at the margins of the huge moving plates that make up the earth's surface.

After ferrying 546 Indian citizens back to India from Kathmandu, the personnel of Indian Air Force today carried out sorties to evacuate people, mostly locals, from the areas worst affected by the earthquake the day before, officials said.

Hours after a fresh earthquake struck today, flights have stated taking off from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
