200 Smses A Day

The Delhi High Court today set aside the cap of 200 SMSes per day sent through a mobile phone SIM for personal communications but upheld the curb on unwanted commercial SMSes saying they infringed the "equally" important right to privacy of "unwilling recipients".

Telecom tribunal TDSAT would start its final hearing on February 27, a petition against regulator TRAI's circular limiting the number of SMSes to 200 per day per SIM.

Consumers will now be able to send up to 200 SMSes per day from a SIM, as against the earlier limit of just 100 SMSes per day imposed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
