The 46-year-old businessman was granted bail by the Delhi High Court in March after being questioned by the agency while in its custody for 23 days.

The telecom department wants the government to bail out public sector telecom majors BSNL and MTNL on payment of one-time fee. Sources told NDTV that the department of telecommunication (DoT) will apply to the cabinet for paying Rs 1,626 crore upfront and Rs 893 crore annually on behalf of these companies from the government's coffers.

After spending close to a month in Tamil Nadu since his release on bail, the prime accused in the 2G case, A Raja, is playing the victim card, claiming in an interview to a Tamil news Channel Puthiya Thalaimurai that he is "in trouble today" because he "stood in the way of a telecom cartel."
