CPI today said it favoured a Dalit woman as the next President of India, but did not spell out any name for the top Constitutional post. Top CPI leader A B Bardhan said Congress or UPA have not spoken with the Left parties or come out with any name for the Presidential elections.

After 16 years, S Sudhakar Reddy is now the new general secretary of Communist Party of India(CPI), replacing A B Bardhan who held the post since 1997. CPI spokesman Kumar Atul Anjaan told PTI that the national council of the party met and elected unopposed S Sudhakar Reddy as its national general secretary.
