Court Pulls Up Civic Body Over Notice To Cut 177 Trees In Mumbai's Aarey

The Bombay High Court on Monday directed the Mumbai civic body to clarify how it has issued a public notice seeking to cut 177 trees at the Aarey Colony area for a Metro car shed project when Supreme Court in 2022 permitted felling of only 84 trees.

The Metro car shed project in Mumbai's Aarey colony can continue, but the freeze on tree cutting will remain, the Supreme Court said today. The court also asked for a White Paper on the issue, seeking details on the trees cut, transplanted and those that survived the transplant.
