Yakub Memon Case: From Conviction to Hanging

Yakub Abdul Razak Memon was hanged today in a jail in Maharashtra's Nagpur, for his role in the 1993 blasts in Mumbai in which 257 people were killed. The Supreme Court rejected his last-minute petition against execution at 5 am this morning, after a historic middle-of-the-night hearing.

Yakub Abdul Razak Memon, convicted for his role in the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai, was hanged a little before 7 am today at the Nagpur Central Prison. The Supreme Court had, just hours before, dismissed his plea against his hanging.

The Supreme Court today upheld the death sentence of Yakub Abdul Razak Memon in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case and commuted the death sentence of 10 others. The Supreme Court also upheld the conviction of actor Sanjay Dutt under the Arms Act in the terror attack and sent him to five years in prison.
