Flag carrier Air India has been hit by yet another incident involving its engineering unit. In the latest case, one of its CFM engines fell off while being installed on an Airbus 320 airplane, with the damage estimated to be in several crores.

A tyre of an Air India aircraft arriving here from Delhi with 75 passengers on board was found deflated after landing at the airport here this morning.

Air India - fresh from its Monday evening scare of its Kajuraho-Varanasi flight catching fire while landing in Delhi - is speeding up its plans to replace its ageing fleet of Airbus A 320 planes.

The Centre has denied allegations that the state-run carrier, Air India was operating old and faulty aircrafts, and yesterday's incident of fire in a plane was not due to any safety issue. More than 150 people were onboard the flight.

An Air India flight that had apparently developed a hydraulic failure, caught fire during landing at the Delhi airport this evening. Sources said the aircraft in question - the Airbus 320 -- was acquired in 1994 and is more than 21 years old.
