The Prime Minister's Office has asked for a report on "VIPs" holding up flights after a massive controversy over an Air India flight being delayed by Union minister Kiren Rijiju last week. Mr Rijiju has apologised for a family being ordered off the domestic flight so he could have a seat.

At a time when resentment against "VIP culture" in India has provoked campaigns on social media, it has emerged that an Air India flight was delayed last week for about an hour and three passengers, including a child, were offloaded, to accommodate union minister Kiren Rijiju and Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh.
