Air India Unrest

Air India will operate its scheduled flights from Delhi to Dhaka on Wednesday and is also likely to operate a special flight to bring back people from the Bangladesh capital, according to sources.

Sheikh Hasina today resigned as Bangladesh Prime Minister and fled the country. As the Bangladesh army took control amid anarchy in Dhaka, Sheikh Hasina's special flight landed at an air base near Delhi.

National carrier Air India on Monday announced it has cancelled flights to and from Dhaka with immediate effect, amid the growing unrest in the neighbouring country.

Amid a mass sick leave by cabin crew from Air India Express, the AIXEU, or Air India Express Employees Union, has written to the Chairman of Air India to express concerns like "growing unrest and dissatisfaction among employees".

The Manipur Police fired several rounds in the air today to disperse a mob that surrounded a police station near the Chief Minister's office in the state capital Imphal. Curfew has been reimposed in the city.

Pilot bodies at Tata Group-owned Air India have asked their members not to sign revised terms and conditions and warned the management of industrial unrest if it resorts to victimisation or coercive step.

In a stern warning to the government, national passenger carrier Air India's employee unions have asked it not to accept the proposal to privatise the airline.

The Centre on Friday said the local administration in Kashmir has the right to confiscate the equipment of cable operators allegedly airing unauthorised Pakistani channels and take action against them.
