Al Qaeda Kidnaps Woman

An Australian woman who was freed by Al Qaeda after three weeks in captivity said today her husband who was seized with her in Burkina Faso was still alive and she hoped he too would be released soon.

An elderly Australian woman kidnapped with her husband in Burkina Faso by a group affiliated to Al Qaeda has been freed, neighbouring Niger's President Mahamadou Issoufou said on Saturday.

Private Mauritanian news agency Al-Akhbar said Tuesday that it has received a video purportedly from the Al Qaeda-linked Emirate of the Sahara group claiming responsibility for this month's kidnapping of Swiss woman Beatrice Stockly in Mali.
