Four forest workers were killed and four were injured while extinguishing a fire at the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary under the Civil Soyam Forest Division in the Almora district of Uttarakhand, officials said on Thursday.

Three labourers at a pine resin factory in Almora died of burn injuries they sustained while dousing a forest fire that had reached close to their factory, an official said on Friday.

It is a 3-hour trek to the hill where fresh fire has broken out. The eight member team from National Disaster Response Force and 2 forest officials - who have been working through four days and nights -- set off. Chanting Jai Mata Di, they give each other the courage to keep going.

The forest reserves in Uttarakhand have burning for days and the situation has only gotten worse. Nearly 3,000 acres of forest land has burnt over the last 3 months. As many as 6,000 people are at work to get it under control but the scale of the fires has escalated exponentially in the last 24 hours.
