Amarnath Yatra Halted

Braving heavy rains which briefly halted traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the third batch of 2,876 pilgrims today left here for the base camps in Kashmir Valley to pay obeisance at the shrine of Amarnath, officials said.

Authorities have stopped 13 buses, carrying around 2,000 pilgrims, at Lakhanpur due to overcrowding of Bhagwarti Nagar base camp following the suspension of Amarnath Yatra due to bad weather.

The annual Hindu pilgrimage Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir was stopped on Sunday due to inclement weather, police said.
