Amritsar Airport Bomb

Amritsar airport authorities Thursday suspended flight operations for some time after they received a call from an unidentified person that a bomb was in a plane that landed here from Singapore.

Three people were killed and around 20 injured in a grenade attack at a prayer hall in Amritsar's Rajasansi village on Sunday, the police said. Eyewitnesses say that two men on a motorcycle, their faces covered, threw a grenade at the Nirankari Bhawan, where a religious ceremony was on at the time, and fled.

After an abandoned briefcase was found at the Amritsar parking lot this morning, a bomb disposal squad is visiting the site. The area has been cordoned off. Amritsar is just 40 km from the border with Pakistan.

A SpiceJet flight that landed at Amritsar from Dubai this morning is being inspected by the bomb squad after a caller from Dubai alerted authorities about a suspicious package on board the plane.
