Faced with a fund crunch, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu shot off a letter to Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari today, demanding early reimbursement of Rs 3,722 crore for the ongoing Polavaram project on Godavari river.

Andhra Pradesh made the allegations at the first top Council meeting held in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti and attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today expressed grave concern over the violence in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over Cauvery water sharing. "It is sad that people of these states grew restive over water. The violent incidents in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are an example of the ill-effects of water crisis," Mr Naidu said.

A 2-kilometre walk to raise awareness about the importance of constructing rain water harvesting pits to conserve water was held in Vijayawada this morning.

Union Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Monday said interlinking of rivers will help solve water problems.
