Ang Rita Sherpa, the famous Himalayan climber, died on Monday. He was 72. Popularly known as 'Snow Leopard, Ang Rita Sherpa had won several awards as a an extremely successful climber. He received the Sir Edmund Hillary Mountain Legacy Medal in 2011 for his efforts towards conservation of the fragile Himalayan ecology.

The son of fabled Everest climber Ang Rita Sherpa has died attempting to scale the mountain, officials said on Thursday, in the first death of the season on the world's highest peak.
