Anil Shirole, the newly-elected BJP MP from Pune, stirred controversy on Thursday when asked to comment on the murder of an IT professional in the city amid tension over the derogatory depiction of Maratha king Shivaji and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray in pictures shared on Facebook.

A little over a year after the death of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, his sons Mr Uddhav and Mr Jaidev are locked in a legal row over property worth crores left behind by the party patriarch.

"The shutdown call is purely voluntary. We have not called for any kind of shutdown," party spokesperson Anil Parab said on Sunday.

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, known as "Balasaheb," is responding to treatment well, Sena MP Anil Desai has said. "Yesterday, Uddhav ji told to maintain peace and stay calm. Bala ji is responding to the treatment well. All the big doctors are taking care of him," Mr Desai said today.

A founder member of former top cop Kiran Bedi's NGO, who managed her trips, quit the trust today, claiming his reputation has been tarnished.
