Presidency University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Anuradha Lohia left the campus this morning after being confined within her chamber for over 16 hours due to a demonstration by students.

Presidency University Vice Chancellor Anuradha Lohia has been confined within her chamber on the main campus for over 12 hours now as some students continued their sit-in before her office, demanding expeditious completion of repair works in some hostels and reinstatement of sacked hostel employees.

A section of students at Presidency University have rejected the vice chancellor's plan to set up a committee to resolve their grievances. Protests will continue till the vice chancellor, Dr Anuradha Lohia, resigns, they say. And one of the issues they will highlight is the vice chancellor's perceived closeness to chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

From 5:30 this evening, students of the Presidency University in Kolkata have gheraoed the Vice Chancellor Anuradha Lohia demanding her resignation. Her room is full of students shouting slogans and on the walls graffiti saying 'the vice chancellor must resign'. Dr Lohia has said she will not.

It was a forced sleepover for the top officials at Kolkata's famous Presidency University who were locked into a room by a group of 50 students opposed to new rules for admission.
