Army Chief Offered Bribe

Lieutenant General (retired) Tejinder Singh on Monday moved the Delhi High Court seeking bail, soon after the trial court rejected his plea for relief and he was arrested for allegedly offering Rs 14 crore bribe to then Army Chief General V K Singh for clearing a file pertaining to Tatra vehicles.

A court in Delhi today dismissed the bail plea of Lieutenant General (retired) Tejinder Singh for allegedly offering a bribe to former Army Chief General (retired) VK Singh in the Tatra truck deal case and ordered for Tejinder Singh to be taken into custody.

In a complete turnaround of the stand it took a year ago, the CBI now says it has evidence that substantiates former army chief General VK Singh's allegation that he was offered a 14-crore bribe to clear the purchase of heavy-duty Tatra trucks for the military.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today carried out raids at five places, including Lieutenant General (retd) Tejinder Singh's residence, in Delhi after registering a case against him on former Army chief VK Singh's complaint that he was offered bribe to clear a tranche of "substandard" vehicles.

These five officers, including former army chief General VK Singh, have been sued by Tejinder Singh for allegations that he offered General Singh 14 crores as a bribe for clearing "substandard trucks" in 2010.

General VK Singh, who has been sued for defamation, has been summoned to a Delhi court on July 20. General Singh, who retired last month, has been sued by Tejinder Singh, a former army officer, who allegedly offered General Singh 14 crores as a bribe for clearing "substandard trucks" in 2010.

After being under the scanner for allegedly offering the Army Chief a bribe, Lieutenant General (retired) Tejinder Singh could be in for more trouble.
