Army Indicted Major Gogoi

The Army shifted Major Leetul Gogoi, who was at the centre of the 'human shield' controversy, out of his unit and attached to local formation headquarters after being indicted by an Army Court of Inquiry(CoI) for "fraternising" with a local woman in Srinagar, officials said today.

"Justice has been finally done," remarked Farooq Ahmed Dar, an artisan used as a 'human shield' by Major Nitin Leetul Gogoi, today on hearing the officer was indicted by an Army Court of Inquiry for allegedly "fraternising" with a local woman in May this year.

Major Leetul Gogoi, who was detained by police in a Srinagar hotel after he was seen with a local woman in May, may face punitive action as a Court of Inquiry (CoI) ordered by the Army into the incident is likely to indict him in the case, official sources said in New Delhi.
