Pakistani troops fired at and shelled Jammu district's Arnia sector for the sixth successive day, prompting the Border Security Force (BSF) to fire back, a senior BSF officer said.

A Border Security Force soldier was killed on Friday in ceasefire violation by Pakistan rangers in Arnia sub-sector of International Border in Jammu district.

In continued ceasefire violations, Pakistani troops resorted to night-long firing and mortar shelling targeting six Border Out Posts (BoPS) along Indo-Pak border in Jammu district, forcing the Border Security Force (BSF) to retaliate effectively.

The stage is set for the fifth and final leg of Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, in which several high-profile candidates, including Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, will try their luck in 20 seats spread over three districts of Jammu, amid a strong security deployment.

After a lull of two days, Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire twice today by resorting to heavy firing with automatic and small arms along International Border and Line of Control in Jammu and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir, forcing Indian troops to retaliate.

BSF today foiled an infiltration bid along the International Border in Arnia sector of Jammu district in Jammu and Kashmir and found heroin worth Rs 10 crore.
