Norway custody row: After eight months, mother gets custody of children

Eight months after her children returned to India after a lengthy legal battle in Norway, Sagarika Bhattacharya will be able to take them home. The 30-year-old had been granted custody of her son Abhigyan and her daughter Aishwarya by the Calcutta High Court.

In a bizarre turn of events in the custody case of Indian children in Norway, Indian government sources said the father of the children had told the authorities in Norway that he wanted his children to stay on in the country. The father, Anurup Bhattacharya, however has denied the reports.

Relief for NRI couple in Norway; uncle to get custody of children

In a big diplomatic win for India, the Child Welfare Services (CWS) of Norway has recommended that the custody of two children of the Indian couple, Anurup and Sagarika Bhattacharya, should be given to the uncle, Arunabhash Bhattacharya. The court will take the final decision on the custody battle on March 23.

Custody row: Norway to ask Indian authorities for guarantees, say sources

Sources have told NDTV that Norway will seek guarantees from Indian authorities that the uncle Arunabhash Bhattacharya's financial needs are met. Norwegian authorities also want to ensure that Arunabhash will keep custody and other family members, including grandparents or parents, will not get the children.
