Chaos broke out at the Asansol railway station in West Bengal this morning when a shramik special train from Bangalore made a technical halt there and passengers hopped off, complaining of no food, dirty toilets and because the train was headed for north Bengal while half the 1,500 odd passengers needed to go home in south Bengal.

At least half a dozen policemen today were injured in a clash with locals who were protesting the setting up of a COVID-19 quarantine centre at a hostel in Churulia near Asansol town in West Bengal. There are at least 20 people in isolation at the quarantine centre.

Two days after six commuters fell sick after consuming poor-quality food served on the New Delhi-Sealdah Rajdhani Express, the Railways has served termination notice to the caterer, RK Associates, a Kanpur-based private agency engaged in train catering. Passengers held protests at two train stations in West Bengal -- at Sealdah in Kolkata and at Asansol, around 213 km from Kolkata -- after six commuters fell sick after eating the food served on the Delhi-Sealdah Rajdhani Express.

As the BJP hit the streets of Kolkata in protest against the alleged attack on Union minister Babul Supriyo, a video has surfaced in which the minister is purportedly seen manhandling a policeman.
