Ex-Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan's resignation from the Congress Monday - within days of two other senior figures quitting - has jeopardised his former party's Rajya Sabha plans.

A day after former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan resigned from the Congress, former party MP Sanjay Nirupam claimed he was upset with the working style of a leader from Maharashtra.

Amid the speculations that former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), former Congress leader on Monday said that he would prefer to divulge his future political plans in 48 hours.

In a big blow to the Congress in Maharashtra months ahead of the general election and state polls, former chief minister and former MP Ashok Chavan resigned from the party's primary membership amid reports that he was in talks with the BJP.

Central leadership of the Congress has accepted the resignation of Ashok Chavan as the president of the Maharashtra unit, a senior leader disclosed Wednesday.

Congress today demanded the resignation of RBI Governor Urjit Patel over the bank's "loss of autonomy" and said the party will protest outside RBI offices in Mumbai, Nagpur, Bangalore and Ahmedabad on January 18 over the issue of demonetisation.

Senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan had resign from the Maharashtra chief minister's post in 2010 after his name cropped up in Adarsh Housing Society scam.
