Over 80 per cent voters exercised their franchise today for one of the two Lok Sabha seats - Tripura West constituency in the Left Front ruled state as polling ended peacefully.

Around 60 per cent of the electorate had cast their votes till 2 pm on Monday as polling was held in one of the two constituencies in Left-ruled Tripura, an official said.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will set up nine all- women polling stations in Tripura, an official said in Agartala on Wednesday.

The Election Commission, in preparation for the 16th Lok Sabha polls due in April-May 2014, has asked Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all states to update the necessary data and electoral rolls, officials in the Tripura capital said on Friday.

Tripura is underway amidst tight security to elect members to the 60-seat Tripura Assembly. Chief Electoral Officer Ashutosh Jindal said 30 per cent votes had been cast by 10 am and a huge turnout was expected.
