A girl was allegedly shamed and kicked out of a store by a shopkeeper because she was wearing jeans and not a burqa in a case of moral policing in Assam's Biswanath district last week.

The body of one of the two missing victims of the boat disaster at Nimati Ghat in Assam's Jorhat district was recovered four days after the incident near Biswanath Ghat, about 100 km downstream of the Brahmaputra river from the accident site.

Two incidents of mob attacks within the period of 48 hours have rocked northeast India's Assam. While Sabin Gour was killed after a family feud turned violent in central Assam's Biswanath, Majen Nath is recovering from a brutal beating by locals in Western Assam's Bongaigaon who thought they caught him trying to steal from a home.

Eleven people have been arrested after a man was beaten to death and three others critically injured by a mob in Assam's Biswanath district that suspected them to be cattle thieves on Thursday. All those arrested are from the Adivasi community who work in the Diplunga Tea Estate, about 250 km from Guwahati.
