Locals in Baghjan in Assam's Tinsukia district today blocked the road leading to the gas well of Oil India Limited which had suffered a blowout on May 27 and subsequently caught fire on June 9.

The district administration of Tinsukia in Assam on Sunday denied reports that the blaze in Baghjan gas well has spread to other areas, and said that a fire in a farmland, about two km away from the Oil India Limited's site, was caused by burning of bushes.

About 45 days since a damaged gas well blew out in Assam's Baghjan area, the state-owned Oil India Limited (OIL) said it was confident of beginning the "main works" for controlling the fire in the next few days.

All ongoing works to douse a blaze at a damaged gas well in Assam's Baghjan have been suspended with floodwaters inundating the site and submerging the pumps installed to put out the fire, PSU major Oil India Limited (OIL) said on Saturday.
