A school building was damaged in a powerful bomb explosion in Hailakandi district of Assam near the state's border with Mizoram on Wednesday, police said.

Amid tension on the Assam-Mizoram border, a primary school building near the inter-state boundary in Cachar district was destroyed in an explosion carried out by unknown miscreants early on Saturday, police said.

A day ahead of Independence Day celebrations, an improvised explosive device was recovered today in front of the Makum Forest Training School in Upper Assam.

Three school children were killed and another two injured in an explosion in Digboi in Assam today, according to initial reports. Assam Home Secretary GD Tripathy said a schoolboy was killed on the spot and two children who were injured died while being taken to hospital.
