The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is upgrading the Tuticorin airport by initiating a project that includes widening the runway, constructing new air traffic control (ATC) tower and a new terminal building, said an official statement on Friday.

Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated a new Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower for Delhi international airport on Monday.

The deal is expected to be completed by the first half of 2018.

In a clarification to the BSE over media report that said ATC and Carlyle lead race for majority stake in Reliance Infratel, RCom said, "Company has started a process to monetise the valuable tower and fibre assets held in its subsidiary, Reliance Infratel Limited, within current financial year."

The deal is believed to be in the range of $1.5-2 billion, and the raised funds are likely to be used for reduction of debt.

Reliance Jio Infocomm's agreement with ATC India Tower Corporation comes after its tower-leasing pacts with local firms Reliance Communications, Bharti Infratel and Viom Networks. Reliance Jio also has an agreement with Bharti Infratel's parent Bharti Airtel to share network.
