Audi Car Emissions Recall

The Munich prosecutor's office said it was now probing 20 suspects, and had on Monday searched the apartment of Rupert Stadler and one other board member.

Around 60,000 cars have been recalled for a software update, taking the total number of vehicles with Audi engines to more than 900,000.

Road Transport authority KBA had told Audi to respond by February 2 on how it plans to update vehicle software controlling emissions, making sure the cars are unable to illegally manipulate emission controls.

Volkswagen was found in 2015 to have illegally manipulated engine software so that vehicles would meet nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions standards in laboratory testing but not in real-world conditions, where they could emit up to 40 times the permitted levels.

Audi is recalling almost 5,000 cars in Europe for a software fix after discovering they emitted too much nitrogen oxide, the polluting gas that parent Volkswagen concealed from U.S. regulators in its devastating 2015 "dieselgate" scandal.

Audi has issued a voluntary recall for 8.5 lakh diesel cars with either a V6 diesel or a V8 diesel engine. The affected V6 diesel or a V8 diesel engine have been used in all the top-end sedans and SUVs from the brand like - The Audi A8 and the Audi Q7.
