The political hotspot of Kannur in north Kerala is set to witness a fierce Lok Sabha poll contest between sitting Congress MP K Sudhakaran, who is relying on the work done in the constituency, and CPI(M)'s P K Sreemathi as she counts on the anti-incumbency factor to tip the scales in favour of the Left alliance.

A Maldivian vessel, being towed to a breaking yard at Azhikkal port in Kannur, sank off Kochi and efforts are on to clear the wreckage from near the coast. The 70-metre-long vessel, M V Sea Angel, was being taken to Kannur for being dismantled as scrap, when she sank off Kochi waters on July one, a Naval press release said today.
