The case of Ariha Shah, a three-year-old Indian girl who has been in foster care in Germany, was raised during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz here on Friday, the Foreign Secretary said.

Germany is working closely with the Indian government to find a solution "acceptable to all sides" amid the demand for the return of baby Ariha Shah to India, a senior German diplomat said on Monday.

Indian officials in Berlin celebrated Diwali last month with baby girl Ariha Shah, who has been living in a foster care in the German capital for over two years.

In a strong statement on 28-month-old Ariha Shah, who has been in foster care in Germany since 2021, the centre said today that her cultural rights and rights as an Indian are being violated.

Some women parliamentarians on Wednesday met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar with a plea to intervene in a case of a child who has been placed in foster care in Germany since September 2021 over allegations of parental abuse.

Members of the Indian diaspora in Germany staged a protest in Frankfurt in an appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help reunite baby Ariha Shah, currently in German state services custody, with her Indian parents.

A court in Berlin's Pankow has denied the custody of 27-month-old Ariha Shah to her parents and handed her over to Germany's Youth Welfare Office (Jugendamt). Ariha has been in the custody of the Jugendamt since September 2021.

"The MEA has released a very strong statement, asking German authorities to send Ariha (Shah) back to India at the earliest. This has given us a lot of hope that Ariha will soon return to her country," Dhara Shah told PTI.

The Ministry of External Affairs today urged German authorities to send back Ariha Shah, a 27-month-old Indian girl who has been in the custody of Germany's Youth Welfare Office (Jugendamt) since September 2021.

India has concerns that she should be in her linguistic, religious, cultural, and social environment and it is her right, EAM Jaishankar said on Monday regarding the Indian baby who is in German custody.

The family members of an Indian baby girl have been protesting in front of the German embassy building in Delhi, seeking her repatriation to India. Ariha, the one-and-a-half year old baby girl of a Gujarat couple, has been living in foster care.
