Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, known as "Balasaheb," is responding to treatment well, Sena MP Anil Desai has said. "Yesterday, Uddhav ji told to maintain peace and stay calm. Bala ji is responding to the treatment well. All the big doctors are taking care of him," Mr Desai said today.

86-year-old Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, who was described as being in critical condition at his home in Mumbai since last evening, is now "stable", his party has said. Mr Thackeray's son, Uddhav, has appealed to Shiv Sena workers to be calm and pray for their party chief.

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, who is admitted to the Lilavati Hospital, is currently stable. The 86-year-old Shiv Sena patriarch was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday and was moved back to his room yesterday after being temporarily shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He was admitted to the ICU after he had breathing problems, say reports.
