Sugar firm Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd on Friday reported a 30 per cent rise in standalone net profit at Rs 98.78 crore for the March quarter, on better realization from sale of the sweetener. Its net profit stood at Rs 75.82 crore in the year-ago period, Balrampur Chini said in a regulatory filing.

Balrampur Chini Mills, the country's second-largest sugar firm, on Monday reported a standalone net profit of Rs 87.80 crore for the quarter ended December 31, on account of lower expenses and financial costs.

The price fixed by the government is much higher than the price of Rs 29 per litre, which oil companies presently pay to buy sugarcane extracts.

Last month, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had decided to implement the mixing of five per cent ethanol in petrol, a step which will help the country save around 100 crore litres of fuel every year.

Sugar firm Balrampur Chini Mills on Friday said its standalone net loss for the second quarter of the ongoing fiscal year (2014-15) has narrowed to Rs 63.90 crore on account of higher income.
