UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon embraced the 99-year-old woman he calls his "American Mom" on a nostalgic visit to her home where as a high school student from war-ravaged South Korea he spent his first days in the United States in culture shock at the country's riches.

Ban Ki-Moon was due to arrive in South Korea on Wednesday for a six-day visit that has fuelled speculation the UN chief is lining up a tilt at the presidency of his home country.

Describing India as having "a very special place in my heart," UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon recalled that he deliberately chose to begin his diplomatic career in New Delhi, which he saw as an "important and adventurous posting".
