Ban Ki-moon On Kashmir Issue

Rejecting Pakistan's repeated demand to the United Nations over Kashmir, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that Pakistan and India should address their outstanding issues, including Kashmir, through "dialogue".

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today made no reference to Kashmir and the situation in the Valley in his last address despite Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's repeated calls to the world body to help resolve the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon decried the deaths in the current unrest in Jammu and Kashmir and also offered UN office to facilitate dialogue between India and Pakistan to "achieve a negotiated settlement" on all outstanding issues, including Kashmir.

The UN has strongly rejected assertion that Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has a "vow of silence" on the issue of Kashmir.

Stepping up its efforts to internationalise the Kashmir issue, Pakistan has written to United Nations Secretary-General Ban ki-Moon on the recent border tension with India and has sought the UN's intervention.
