Ban On Radio Taxis

The Delhi High Court has been told that its order upholding a ban on diesel cabs providing point-to-point service in the city was being implemented only against Ola while other app-based taxi services were violating it with impunity.

Over a million commuters, office-goers and students were hit badly as around 20,000 autorickshaws went off the roads today in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai to press for their demands of banning radio taxis and having a social welfare scheme.

Uber, the US-based online taxi-aggregator application, is set to resume business in Delhi. The startup applied for a radio taxi license a month and half after it was banned following allegations of rape of a passenger by one of the drivers on its network.

Ahead of the New Year, the Delhi government has announced some new rules for taxis plying in the city - which include mandatory installation of tracking devices based on GPS and prominent display of police and transport department helpline numbers.
