The leaders of protesting farmer unions and Centre held marathon talks last night with Union minister Arjun Munda terming the discussion as "positive".

Hundreds of cars were stacked bumper-to bumper along the Gurgaon-Delhi border this morning as the vehicles entering the national capital were being checked by Delhi police in wake of the Bharat Bandh called by protesting farmers.

Autorickshaws and taxis plied normally and shops were open in the national capital on Monday, with their unions and associations extending only "in-principle support" to the Bharat Bandh called by farmers but deciding not to join the strike.

The Delhi Police on Saturday said adequate security arrangements will be made across the borders of the national capital in view of the 'Bharat Bandh' called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha on September 27 to protest the three contentious farm laws.

A nationwide strike called by farmer unions against the centre's farm laws was underway today, with speeches and sloganeering at Delhi's border points amid tight security arrangements in the national capital. Most of the city's markets however, remained open.

Amid calls for a "peaceful" Bharat Bandh, farmers, who have refused to give space to political leaders in their protest against repeal of farm laws, made a strong statement today by organising a blood donation camp at the Tikri border.

Social activist Anna Hazare on Tuesday sat on a day-long hunger strike to support agitating farmers who have called Bharat Bandh demanding repeal of the Centre's agri laws.

Azadpur mandi, one of the largest wholesale markets for fruits and vegetables in the country, along with all others in the national capital will remain shut on Tuesday in support of the Bharat bandh, called by farmers, its chairman Adil Ahmed Khan said.

During the meeting between protesting farmers and Union minister Amit Shah this evening, which failed to resolve the deadlock over the farm laws, the government offered to make amendments to the laws, which the farmers refused to accept, remaining firm on their demand for a scrapping of the contentious laws.
