The war over the Cauvery river is getting uglier with widespread vandalism and massive protests paralysing parts of Karnataka, especially Bengaluru and Mysuru today. The protests come after the Supreme Court modified its last week's order, asking Karnataka to release less water from the Cauvery to Tamil Nadu but for more days.

A section of members of Advocates Association of Bangalore (AAB) on Tuesday boycotted proceedings of the bench headed by Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen protesting his "failure" to initiate action against those involved in the March 2 violence in city civil court complex.

Illegal mining: Janardhana Reddy's custody ends today

Mr Reddy is charged with involvement in illegal mining. It was during his last appearance in court that violence broke out between lawyers, journalists and police - in a stand-off that lasted several hours. Clearly, the police will take no chances over security.
