Bangladeshi Pirates

The Indian Navy has responded to an SOS by Bangladesh-flagged bulk carrier that was seized by pirates off the coast of Somalia who took its 23-member crew hostage earlier this week, the Navy said in a statement on Friday.

A gang of Bangladeshi pirates attacked three Indian trawlers in the Bay of Bengal killing three fishermen, including a father and a son, and hijacked one of these vessels holding 14 fishermen captive.

The tanker, MV Jubaa, was hijacked on Saturday morning by the pirates. The crew comprises one Sri Lankan, five Indians, three Bangladeshis, one Sudanese, one Myanmarese, one Kenyan and four Somalis, said the sources.
