Bengal Hospital Horror

There seems to be no end in sight to the horror of infant deaths in West Bengal. From Malda, which recently witnessed the shocking death of 15 babies within 48 hours at a government hospital, the focus has now shifted to Murshidabad. 10 newborns have died in the last two days in a state-run hospital in Behrampore in the district.

In the Malda district of West Bengal, this hospital continues to be in news, for all the wrong reasons though. At the government-run Malda Medical College, 15 infants have died in less than 48 hours. Four of these died between 7 pm yesterday and 3 am today.

In the Surgical Ward of the Siuri General hospital, Chottu Kumar sits, waiting for help.  His forehead is bandaged . The  8-year-old  was on his way to Dhanbad with his family when he was thrown from his berth on the Vananchal train. "We were returning after our sister's wedding. Everybody was asleep.
