The West Bengal government on Monday announced that IPS officer Rajeev Kumar had been reinstated as the state police chief.

Vivek Sahay, an IPS officer of 1988 batch, has been appointed as the police chief of Bengal after the Election Commission removed the state Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar. Mr Sahay was the chief of the Home Guards in the state.

Representatives of the Sikh community on Thursday called on West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose to protest against the alleged "Khalistani" remark at an IPS officer by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.
