After repeated disruptions in both houses of parliament by opposition leaders asking for PM's presence through out the demonetisation debate, 'Bharat bandh' has been called by the Left front in parts of the country.

After a week of acrimony in parliament, the opposition has planned countrywide protest on Monday against what they call the government's "mishandling" of the currency ban. Only the Left Front, which has a presence in Kerala, Bengal and Tripura, has called for a strike or 'Bharat Bandh' in the three states.

Banks and commercial establishments were closed across Himachal Pradesh today after trade unions of central government employees joined the nationwide strike to protest violation of labour laws and privatisation.

The day-long strike by central and state trade unions on Friday has affected normal life in many cities across Karnataka as shops, markets, banks and factories were shut, and buses, taxis and autos kept off the roads.
