Bihar Liquor Fine

A first time offender under Bihar's anti-liquor law will be able to walk free after paying a fine instead of undergoing a five-year jail term, the state's top law officer said today, a day after the Nitish Kumar government approved amendments to dilute its provisions.

Even as Bihar suspended 25 police officials in the wake of toxic liquor tragedy that claimed 16 lives, authorities were also planning to impose a collective fine on residents of Khajurbani locality in Gopalganj town where illicit liquor was said to be freely available.

The district administration of Nalanda today said it has initiated the process to impose a fine of Rs 5,000 on every household of Kailashpuri village as collective penalty for violating the liquor prohibition law in Bihar.
