A dead man in Bihar has won the Panchayat polls held on Wednesday riding on a "sympathy wave" generated by his own death.

The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar on Tuesday amended the states Panchayati Raj Act, paving way for setting up advisory committees for supervising the functioning of the village bodies till fresh elections to these could be held.

Liquor worth around Rs 40 lakh allegedly meant to be distributed ahead of the panchayat polls in Uttar Pradesh and for smuggling into neighbouring Bihar has been seized from the city, police said on Thursday.
