Colonel Santosh Babu, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar regiment who was among the 20 soldiers that died in the line of duty in combat with Chinese troops in Ladakh's Galwan Valley last year, was today posthumously given the Maha Vir Chakra.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met the soldiers of the Bihar regiment during a visit to forward areas in Ladakh, his office said on Sunday. The Bihar Regiment had lost 20 soldiers in a deadly clash with the Chinese Army in the Galwan Valley last month.

The five Indian soldiers, who were killed in an ambush by Pakistani soldiers on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir two nights ago, will be cremated today. Four of the jawans were from 21 Bihar Regiment and their bodies were brought to Patna at 10 pm last night in a special Air Force plane.

The Bihar government has announced a state funeral for four soldiers from the 21 Bihar Regiment who were killed on Tuesday in an ambush by the Pakistani troops along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. A compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family of each of the four soldiers has also been announced by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
