Bill On Commercial Courts

Seeking to improve India's ranking in the ease of doing business index, a bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha yesterday to amend a law for speedy disposal of commercial disputes.

The Bombay High Court today directed that Director General of Foreign Trade and Department of Family Welfare of the Centre be made parties to a petition filed by a US couple who want to take back their eight embryos kept in a city hospital following a recent ban by the Indian government on commercial surrogacy.

Two bills aimed at creating commercial benches in select high courts and amending a law on arbitration for speedy settlement of high value business disputes were cleared by Parliament today.

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Commercial Courts, Commercial Division and Commercial Appellate Division of High Courts Bill, 2015, by a voice vote.
