The Bombay High Court today threatened to halt the disbursement of salaries of the staff concerned of the BMC and the Central Railways over their failure to construct a new foot overbridge (FOB) in place of the now demolished Hancock Bridge.

A corporator in Mumbai's civic body BMC has demanded a 400 per cent salary hike. Samajwadi Party's Rais Sheikh says his demand is more than justified, given that the salary of a member of one of the richest civic bodies in Asia is Rs 10,000 a month.

Hoping to take advantage of the benevolence of a new boss, corporators have renewed their demand for a raise. Congress representative Sunil More has demanded a hike in the corporators' honorarium by 150 per cent. The demand has perhaps been revived by the corporators since a new municipal commissioner has been in office since Monday.
