An Indian Navy's patrol vessel on Wednesday rescued six fishermen who were stranded on their capsized boat off the Nagapattinam coast in Tamil Nadu.

Four fishermen struggling to stay afloat in rough seas for over two hours after their boat capsized off Kodiakarai coast in the Nagapattinam, were rescued by other fishermen and brought ashore.

Nine people, including five women and three children, died after the fishing boat ferrying them capsized in Manappadu, 60 kilometres from Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin, in the Bay of Bengal, said officials. Eleven others have been rescued and are being treated in hospitals.
