Almost three decades after the 64-crore Bofors scam hit headlines, an independent investigator's claims have created a buzz around the case. The Central Bureau of Investigation or the CBI today took note of his claims that the then Congress government headed by Rajiv Gandhi did not want the details of the pay-offs for the gun deal to come out.

In a fresh turn of events, the Supreme Court today agreed to hear an appeal filed by BJP leader Ajay Kumar Agarwal challenging a 2005 Delhi High Court order quashing charges against Europe-based industrialists -- the Hinduja brothers -- in the politically-sensitive Bofors pay-off scam case.

Indicating a resurrection of the decades-old Bofors arms scandal involving allegations of kickbacks to then prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and other top officials when the Congress was in power, the CBI has told a group of lawmakers it can reopen investigation into the case.

The Public Accounts Committee or PAC has asked the Defence Ministry to trace and share with it all missing files related to the Bofors scandal, according to its two members.
