Top Court Extends Stay On High Court Order On Women Entry In Haji Ali

Supreme Court today extended the stay granted by Bombay High Court to facilitate an appeal against its decision to lift the ban on entry of women near the sanctum sanctorum of the famous Haji Ali Dargah till October 24, when it will hear the matter.

Women have the right to enter the core or inner sanctum of Mumbai's famous Haji Ali shrine, the Bombay High Court has ruled. However, women cannot avail of the order just yet - the trust that runs the shrine wants to appeal the decision in the Supreme Court, so today's verdict is suspended or put on hold for six weeks.
